Spore Forming vs Non – Spore Forming Probiotics

The majority of currently available probiotics are bacteria which are NON-spore formers, such as Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria. While these strains are a popular choice as a dietary supplement, they are not resistant to unfavorable conditions.

The Bacillus Subtilis we use in our product is a diverse group of hardy bacteria characterized by their ability to form endospores – durable protein envelopes that protect it from heat, light, and other stressors – to protect themselves when conditions are not favorable. This means they are able to protect themselves from harsh conditions until they enter an environment ripe for germination, such as the GI tract. Because of their ability to endure harsh conditions, Bacillus Subtilis offers numerous benefits:

- Remains viable under a wide range of temperatures and does not require refrigeration
- Survives through the acidic environment of the GI tract, increase its numbers, then re-sporulate
- Thrives in both the lower and upper intestinal tracts
- Supports normal immune reaction of intestinal cells
- Crowds out bacterial pathogens and maintains healthy gut flora
- Communicates with intestinal cells to maintain gut barrier strength
